Help Jacob Wismer students interact, chat and enjoy each other's company in a Communi-tea Café. The Café will offer 'tea' and refreshments, while working to enrich language skills and grow self-confidence.

Based on the increased need for students to engage with others in a peaceful environment, the café’s calm, fun atmosphere will give students a spot to enjoy quality time with their peers, practice 'small talk' skills, manipulate various tea accessories (no paper or plastic cups) and work together. They will learn protocols regarding accepting and responding to an invitation and showing appreciation at the end of their tea time.

Literature, music and art will be introduced to prepare students for the café, including reading books such as Tea Rex, Zen Ties, Say Please, Please, the  Cookies series of life lessons and  Please, Mr. Panda . 

Students will be gently guided during the party, but ultimately will independently negotiate their needs with their classmates. Many students may be using tea cups and serving tools for the first time. It is our hope that the overall experience of sharing time with classmates, sipping tea together and feeling a sense of accomplishment will carry on in other ways, both as they move forward in their education and in the joy of having learned something new!
