Changing the world one recipe at a time, Candace Boyd Wylie seeks to expand her mobile cooking school by taking it on the road to reach communities in Indianapolis, Indiana and beyond!

Here's a little story about a lady that learned to about food as a powerful tool to connect people...

I’m Candace. I’m a Mid-Western born and raised home chef who loves to make family recipes and cultivate new flavors. I've been in the kitchen over 20 years, making meals that are fun, feisty and flavorful. The story goes (as told by my daddy to anyone who'll listen) I fried my first egg at the age of 6, and it was pretty perfect, after that you couldn't keep me out of the kitchen.

The wealth of my knowledge came at the hand of my mother and maternal grandmother while sitting on their laps snapping beans or sitting on a stool to help stir the pot. I learned how to season and cook with love from those two, and I'm ever thankful for those lessons.

Because of them, food became that connector of people for me. Whether hosting Christmas brunch or making my husband's favorites for game day, I'm all about the good eats! Exploring flavors in the kitchen is my thing, and helping people do more in their kitchen is my thing too. I'm on the forefront of food justice and food education with my work in the community with children and families. That is why The FoodLoveTog Cooking School has to happen.I want to change the world one recipe at a time.

Being exposed to the kitchen is something changed my life! I want to share that with people who traditionally don't have access to food education. Culinary education should be accessible for anyone who wants it. Demographics shouldn't matter. Economic status shouldn't matter. Age shouldn't matter. Inability to travel to a location shouldn't matter. The FoodLoveTog Cooking school will be mobile will do just that- Making food education a reality for those who need and want it.

The Program

Picture this: a cooking school on wheels. A place where children, parents, singles, married couples can expand their knowledge of good eats. Want to learn how to mash potatoes- The FoodLoveTog Cooking school can help. Want to know about the many varieties of asparagus- The FoodLoveTog Cooking School can help. Have a desire to make a delicious meal for your family, but you're unsure as to how?-The FoodLoveTog Cooking School is here to help. Armed with a love of food, and a passion to help people be comfortable in the kitchen, the FoodLoveTog Cooking School will travel the globe putting food education back in the hands of the community. The Cooking School will focus on a hands on learning and teaching model, showcasing basic cooking skills, food safety, nutrition and seasonal eating. The school will take a F.R.E.S.H. (Flourishing, Realistic, Engaging, Sustainable, Healthy) approach to food education. The cooking school will partner with schools and community organizations seeking to provide a culinary education experience to under served areas and groups.

A mobile vehicle (Large van, school bus or RV) to be refurbished as a mobile school for cooking and learning. Should be large enough to hold 5-10 students and instructor. The bus will need to be constructed to house a mobile school school, complete with running water, heat, air conditioning and electricity.

Supply needs: Stove top cooking ranges, refrigeration, instructional tables, desks, washing and prep sinks, Culinary prep tools including: aprons and kitchen safety items, Children's cooking prep sets & knives, Adult cooking prep sets & utensils, bakeware, cookware, dinnerware, flatware sets, cleaning goods, and storage.

The Impact

Your contribution to this fundraiser will help aid me in the purchase, furnishing and marketing of the FoodLoveTog Cooking School. I am actively holding education experiences in the community, but I know the need is even greater. With the rise in schools cutting arts and extra curricular programming in favor of technology, the need to know how to navigate in the kitchen is great. The more we take away these basic skills, we will soon have a generation of people that won't know how to boil water without looking it up on YouTube. There is still a need to know how to make a meal for yourself.

Moment of transparency

I've held this dream for 2 years now and I just gained the courage to ask for help with funding. As stated above, I'm passionate about community and food education. That said, most of the classes I have been able to facilitate, have been 90% funded from my own pocket. In order to get this mobile school off the ground literally and figuratively, I need the support of my family, friends and loved ones. The dream of this school is massive.

Other Ways You Can Help

Maybe you can't support the FoodLoveTog Cooking School Financially, but a share would help. Sharing on social media gives me a great push too! I'm thankful that you've read thus far. If you feel led to give, I thank you ever so much. If you feel led to share, I'm thankful for you as well.Thank you for helping a lady passionate about food changing the world one recipe at a time. With you, I can make this dream a reality.

Thank you and good eats,

Candace Boyd Wylie
