Every May, towards the end of our school year, we have an all
middle school soccer tournament to celebrate the academic growth of
our students in the Safe and Sound 4 Student Success (S4) program in
the Beaverton School District.
S4 is an after-school program created to increase student
achievement through extended day tutoring and soccer. Many of our
students do not have the financial or logistical support necessary
to participate in extracurricular activities. S4 provides a time and
place for students to receive academic tutoring and if their
behavior is satisfactory, they can play soccer.
Once a month, we have soccer tournaments at various middle
schools. Due to space constrictions, we can never have all the
middle schools at the same tournament. Our Family Fiesta is one of
the few times we have all the schools at one location. It has become
a tradition for Whitford to host this tournament. The last few years
we have supplied food, music and raffle prizes to celebrate the event.
The students love playing soccer and celebrating the commitment
they have demonstrated throughout the year. Help reward these
students for their hard work throughout the year by enabling us to
hold this event to recognize their accomplishments.

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom, summer and after-school programs.
In the event that this project does not reach its goal, BEF may apply the funds received to another project in need.
