You can fill students with happiness and joy with support for our youngest learners to enjoy reading! Together we can provide resources needed to teach our youngest online students to read and prevent potential future interventions.

I teach Kindergarten at the FLEX Online School, and like most kindergarten classes, many of my students enter school with limited to no knowledge about reading, letter names, letter sounds or even being read to. It is CRUCIAL for me to have my students reading by the time they leave kindergarten to help ensure they are on a successful path for their learning journey. Having my reading endorsement, I take teaching reading seriously and approach it with urgency.

In order to do this, I need access to books I can share in lessons virtually and the assessment tools and programs to inform their progress. Our school doesn't have an intervention teacher so it is up to the classroom teacher to provide it. With your help, students can access a box of books, just like a physical classroom, that they can read at home. And with the assessment programs, if a student struggles with reading, I can provide reading intervention and send reports to parents to help keep them informed. These also educate the student's Learning Coaches with what skills are still being practiced so that all of us can better help every child.
