Over the past two decades Fir Grove hosted a Chess for Success club that had many benefits for our students. Attendance improved, friendships developed, and mathematical thinking thrived. We would like to continue that work as a our own school-based club.

The Chess Club will be open to about 40 students before school in grades 3-5, and will run from October through March. Students would arrive by 7am, have strategy instruction and play chess for 40 minutes twice per week. Early arrival is not an issue for our eager and willing Chess players!

But they need your help! In order to have this club, we are organizing early so that we have the plans in place for the start of the school year. We are raising funds now so there is no scrambling at the beginning of next year. Funds raised are needed for staff compensation, chess supplies, snacks and tshirts for the club, totaling $1400. That's just $35 a student.

For newer players chess is an introduction to an entire new world of strategy and game play. For our more experienced players, they get to continue doing something they love, honing their skills and eventually play in tournaments. 

Please consider giving Fir Grove students an opportunity to explore the world of chess. We could have a Grand Champion in our midst!
