Conestoga Middle School, Bridget Peterson hasn't added a story.
At Conestoga Middle School (CNMS) we work with some pretty exceptional kids. Our staff serves the needs of almost 1000 students and each person does their part to support students not only academically, but socially and emotionally. We donate backpacks and supplies, serve as mentors and counselors, and check in with many students to make sure they have their basic needs met. Our food pantry can be a busy place on any given day. Our wonderful counselors help kids pick out snacks to get through the day or do a little shopping as they head into their weekend. What's missing? A clothing closet of sorts where any student can go in and do a little "shopping" at no cost.
Our kids come from a variety of backgrounds and are not always able to travel to the clothes closet that is housed at the district office. Transportation is one issue. Another issue is that some of our students don't always have a strong support system at home. School is the only place where they can find a trusted adult who has their best interests at heart. Need food? We can do that. Need school supplies? We'll hook you up. Need clothing? Give us a few days and we'll get it for you. Having a clothes closet on site would eliminate the need to play the waiting game.
The space that the kids will use is a blank slate right now. Our staff would like to make it a place that feels warm and inviting, a confidence booster for kids who are just trying to fit in. The money that is raised will go to providing this space with clothing racks, labels, organizers for shoes, paint, and other essentials to make it feel welcoming. We just need the framework to get the ball rolling and any money raised will be a positive first step! Our kids at CNMS deserve to feel good about themselves. We are excited to provide the support to our community.
