"Buggy for Bugs!" is a hands on science enrichment designed to bring the magic of living things right to the eyes (and magnifying glasses!) of curious 2nd graders. In our 2nd grade science curriculum, students learn about living things, their needs, and the process of metamorphosis. This life cycle process is quite amazing to children, but they rarely get to witness it without the special expense of in-class habitats.
"Buggy for Bugs!" would bring these valuable resources
right to the students so they can experience them directly.
"Buggy for Bugs!" is an inquiry-based project in which
students will investigate ladybugs, caterpillars, and ants to
actively construct knowledge. Students will use nonfiction resources
to research these insects and formulate a hypothesis of how these
insects will live and change in their enclosed habitats. Students
will regularly observe our "class pets" and document their
questions, observations, and research in a science journal. The
project will culminate with a presentation by The Bug Chicks!

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom, summer and after-school programs.
In the event that this project does not reach its goal, BEF may apply the funds received to another project in need.
