This nationally recognized summer school Career and Technical Education (CTE)/STEM outreach program, serving over 200 middle school students across the district, focuses on a common theme (such as bridges, boats, or robots) each year. It’s supported by a combination of district and community partner funding but none that specifically cover the consumables and classroom materials we need to provide the hands-on, real life opportunities for students to create and learn. As the Summer School Science coordinator, I develop the curriculum and tasks associated for the summer school program each year and we’re looking to get a head start with your help.
Sample CTE/STEM projects included:
- Building a cardboard board that can float their teacher
- Building a balsa wood structure that can withstand the seismic testing at the PSU Engineering Lab
- Learning coding through simple Micro:Bits
- Building a balsa wood structure that can withstand a significant force

Founded in 1988, the Beaverton Education Foundation raises money to provide hands-on innovative academic enrichment and advancement programs & projects that go beyond normal school funding at all Beaverton public schools and is a 501(c)(3) community-based nonprofit organization. BEF mobilizes community resources to fund innovative classroom projects, summer and after-school programs.
