In addition to an ongoing pandemic, a great challenge for ELL and dual language teachers is to help strengthen language skills and tailor support to build content knowledge across curriculums. In a dual immersion program, it can be difficult to find needed materials in Spanish. Students learn through discovering and creating. English Language Learners and Spanish speakers need to build vocabulary and grammar proficiency and have an equal chance at such an education.

BrainPOP creates cross-curricular digital content that engages students and supports teachers, from animated movies, creation and reflection tools, coding projects, and quizzes to learning games, custom and playful assessments, lesson plans, and beyond. These resources are also all available in SPANISH. Yay! It supports ELLs and Spanish speakers by engaging and challenging them with scaffolded lessons to build reading, writing, speaking and listening skills. It encourages students to ask questions and form their own ideas in STEM, Social Studies, Reading/Writing, Health, Arts, and Music. It meets the various instructional and student needs of continuing students’ education at home which allows for flexibility, differentiation, and creativity. BrainPop further expands students’ capacity to learn and teachers to teach.

This school year, our school did not have the funds to purchase a license and provide this resource for our 4th grade ELLs and Spanish speaking classrooms which we desperately want.
