Beaver Acres ISC Sensory & Supports hasn't added a story.
Our ISC programs serve the most impacted students within the Beaverton School District, this includes physical, cognitive as well as behavioral challenges. We welcome students experiencing Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Disability and Chromosomal Deletions as well as Down Syndrome. Due to this wide range of abilities and levels, our students need a variety of supports. Our current group of students have diverse needs for sensory input, calming tools, alerting tools as well as hands-on activities to increase their fine motor capabilities. We have two students in wheelchairs which require even more adaptive materials.
We pride ourselves on our positive behavior perspectives and focus on the individual student strengths, needs and preferences. Each child has limitless potential that we strive to stretch them every day. We encourage looking at their growth and celebrating their differences as the strengths they are. The reality of this is that developmentally they may need tools that would typically be seen at a preschool or even infant level. In order to increase abilities to tolerate the overwhelming sensory world, we expose them systematically to different sensory experiences in a safe environment of our classrooms. Each child has a different baseline of tolerance so a variety of tactile, oral, proprioception, and smells materials is required. Our grant list includes tools to use to meet each of these areas. Brain research recommends the more senses involved in learning, the stronger the neuropaths created. Even though our students come to us with severely impacted development, we celebrate the challenge and share in the joy with parents when even the smallest achievements occur. Please help us to continue to meet these goals of growth for our students and families. We are grateful for your time and consideration (and donation of course!) :)
