The Tent

Aloha High School has the privilege of having a hands-on construction and wood shop program that provides real-life opportunities to hundreds of students throughout the school year. We are running into a barrier to fully serve our students and to offer a full spectrum of construction elements. There are several moments during the program when students are building small houses/sheds outside of the classroom. There is currently no designated covered space for these activities and this leaves our students working in random parking spaces in our service courtyard, which presents some safety concerns as well. In addition, because we live in the great state of Oregon, there is an ample of amount weather that interferes with the number of school days students can comfortably work on their projects outside of the classroom.

Aloha High School is in desperate need of a professional-grade tent to define and effectively create a covered work space for students’ construction projects. The addition of a covered work space would not only allow students a safer and more comfortable space to work on projects, it would immediately expand the curriculum being taught in the program. A tent would allow the construction program to offer a masonry unit, which is currently not an option due to a lack of covered space outside of the classroom. The installation of a tent is going to up several learning opportunities that are not currently available to our Construction students. In addition, the tent will keep our students safe as they work in the rain with power tools.

This project has been approved by Risk Management at the district office. The tent is designed to be installed long-term with the expected life for the tent to be 10+ years. Aloha HS will manage the tent and attend to the annual cleaning.

The tent costs $4460 which includes:

• The tent fabric and poles

• The walls for the tent

• The weights to secure the tent

• The tent is fire marshall approved

4 water barrels at $11 each = $44
