Why drunk goggles?  Using “Drunk Goggles" allows students to experience the effects that drugs/alcohol have on the different parts of the brain, most notably the occipital lobe (vision) and the cerebellum (balance, coordination).  Our desire is to make an impact that will influence students' decision-making and lead to healthy and responsible choices.  Through the use of these goggles, we would be able to measure their impact by merely watching how the students perform activities that rely heavily on coordination, gross and fine motor skills, reaction time and balance. Not only will students be using the goggles themselves, but their classmates will be able to see just how the goggles affect their peers during the activities.  Last year, we were able to purchase and use our first set of goggles for one of two health classrooms.  Students shared that the experience " gives you an opportunity to see what it is like to be drunk without actually being drunk," and they expressed surprise at the level of cognitive and reflex impact that being drunk will cause.  This is a valuable lesson, and we would like to now offer students in the second health class the same experience.  Thank you for supporting this project!
