Gina Calaminos hasn't added a story.
My son, Gavin Christian, 21 yrs old, a supposed graduating college student in the University of the Philippines, Los Banos, was diagnosed with B-Cell + ph Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia last Jan.2015. He is a good and loving son a mom would be so proud to have. I don’t have problems raising my 2 children alone. Gavin grows up normal and healthy, and full of dreams, even promised to help our family for a better living. He was a constant honor student on his elementary grade, a badminton player and even a leader during his high school years.
It was December 2014, when he arrived home for Christmas vacation, having an on and off fever and pale lips. I was however not so worried about it because he grown up not having any serious illnesses. Not until I sent him for check-up on Jan 1, 2015 New Years Day. This starts our lives turned upside down. Our dreams just shattered away.
He was immediately confined for blood transfusions and some other tests. He even had his first chemo cycle before giving him a bone marrow biopsy. But after the bone marrow results, chemo treatment protocol was changed. The recommended treatment will be an 8-cycle chemotherapy session. So he underwent again to another 1st chemo cycle last March.
He had 2 cycles for the past months and it really cost us much. Though I managed to get support from our government institution (PCSO) for some chemo medicines, but their assistance were limited and not enough. Government support do not provide for blood transfusions, laboratory services, and medicines other than chemo medicines. I tried to get as much help as possible from some of my friends and relatives but they were still not enough. Not to mention, the infections he incurred every after therapy, which prolonged him to stay in the hospital for a month.
Last May, he was then confined at the charity ward for his 2nd cycle. After the chemo, he got infected and cannot be released from the hospital. The doctor advised us to transfer him to a private room to avoid any complications. Hence, he got transferred to a private room for treatment of his infection. But once in a private room, all government supports were pulled out. Hospital bills are piling up, and in addition, he was given an estimated amount of PHP 17K (US$ 400) of medicine per day. I beg the doctor for an alternative medicines because I cannot afford it for 1 month. So the medicines was changed, lowered it to 7K to 10K a day. Last June 19, the doctor advised to send my son home because he was so restless. With all the complaints of vomiting, stomach ache, fever, cannot sleep well, frequently talks on his sleep especially when his fever is high, had nightmares and fears, and even thought of giving up, had trauma’s for blood extractions. It really hurts to see your son suffering. It melts my heart so deeply. Though, until now, the infection is still on him.
What worries me more is how should I proceed with his future
treatments? I don't have any money left now. I love my son so much,
and I am hoping for his healing. I am jobless right now. I resigned
from my 15 years work because I am the only one attending to his
needs. To be honest, jobless or not, I cannot afford these treatment
expenses. These are beyond our means. They say
everything happens for a reason but I still couldn't fathom why this
has to happen all so suddenly in our lives. The only thing that is
holding us up is our trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, relieving
us from sorrow for the moment.
I am desperately seeking and appealing for financial assistance for my son's chemo treatment and hospitalization needs from all the Good Samaritan. I hope people with soft hearts can help us to continue his treatment. God is with us and trust that he would be cured. Please help us, I love my son very much. I don't know how to repay you for all the supports, but I know, God will provide you more blessings on your family.
May God bless you.
May whoever reads this be one of GOD's instruments sent to help us in our most trying times. Please share our story to people who may have the compassion to ease our burden.
