As an entering Xavier High School Freshman, I had earned a spot on the freshman soccer team.  Over 100 student tried out and I was one of the 18 to make the team.  The day before high school was to begin my accident occurred.  I was playing softball and while running towards first base, I was hit on the left side of my head with the ball.  My brain swelled, so the doctors placed me in a drug-induced coma hoping the swelling would go down.  Unfortunately, that did not happen so surgery was necessary to remove a blood clot caused by the blow.  After the surgery, I remained in a coma for 2 ½ months.  My family was told I would probably never be able to speak, understand language and would be paralyzed on the left side of my body.  Also, while in my coma I suffered a stroke in my vision area and was left with right side peripheral blindness in both eyes.  After spending six months in two different hospitals I was finally able to go home and continue outpatient therapy for several years.

Those next years were extremely hard for me, instead of being a carefree high school student I was trying to relearn very basic skills.  I often wanted to give up because I couldn’t believe this was happening to me.  Thanks to my family, friends, and faith in Jesus I continued to improve.

Over the last 30 years I have had many different jobs; some better, some worse.  I feel very fortunate to have found a job with InRETURN everybody is like me.
