This engaging and humorous story will increase awareness about mental health issues.

Hoarding Joy (89,800 words) follows the life of Anneliese De Groot, a 39 year old overworked teacher and mother of two, over the course of her fifteen days in group therapy.

At first, Anneliese can’t possibly imagine being able to relate to any of these ‘nut jobs’. But common ground brings her closer to the members of the group, to an understanding of the workings of her own mind, and to answers about what mental health means for her. Like a female Walter Mitty, Anneliese finds hilarity in her mind’s eye, but it also causes her grief. Even as she deals with family betrayal, fraud, and a strange illness that doctors are reluctant to diagnose, the world becomes more tolerable for Anneliese, thanks to the support of her new friends, until a horrible event brings her full circle, wondering if she’ll ever figure out how to stop sadness from ruling her life.

This novel has been completed, but requires the professional (and expensive) support of an editor.

Please help to fund this stage of the publication process.  Although Hoarding Joy (Alternative title: Group) is a work of fiction, the situations are based on real experiences, which I hope will increase sensitivity and awareness around mental health issues.
