This fund has been set up to raise funds for the family of PC David RATHBAND who was shot and blinded by Raoul MOAT and after a 2 year struggle, took his own life. His family are now facing £100,000 court costs. for a failed compensation bid.

Following David's tragic death, his family launched a bid to win compensation from his force. His wife had lost her husband and his children were without their father.  David was on duty on the day that Moat went on the rampage. He parked in a spot where he believed that he was best placed to apprehend him following the murder of Moat's ex girlfriend and her lover. What he did NOT know was that Moat had telephoned Police and told them that he was specifically intent on killing police officers. This information was not passed on and had he known this, he would probably have reacted very differently, still doing his utmost to protect the community and bring Moat to justice but not leaving himself as visible and as vulnerable as he did. David was sitting in his police car when he was shot in the face and stomach.with a shotgun, from 3' away by Moat. His family have lost their compensation claim and have been ordered to make an interim payment to the court of £100,000 costs. ANY DONATIONS WILL BE VERY GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED ON THEIR BEHALF AND EVERY PENNY WILL GO TO HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN. Thank you. Roy TYZACK: Former Met & Essex Police officer.
