Marley's Mutts Dog Rescue hasn't added a story.
I am searching for emotionless, objective words to set down but I
just don't have them--I am furious. I am filled with subjective,
reactive emotions, which may be an indication for me to pause before
continuing. So I'll do so... Pause complete.
I will state only
objective truths; quantitative data which can not be misunderstood to
have emotion behind it. A man surrendered his pure bred bull mastiff
to the vet hospital today because he could not afford to euthanize it.
The dog is NOT suffering a life threatening injury, rather a simple
leg injury the man has avoided treating, which has become terribly
infected. He is not willing to cover costs required to treat her, so
the hospital and Marley's Mutts teamed up to help.
The man was
driving a $50,000 Hummer H2 and paid upward of $1000 for the dog,
which was flown in from Iowa as a puppy.
Mimi is the dogs name
and she is a 2 year old gorgeous, brindle Bull Mastiff. She has been
an outside dog and never known the privilege of continuous human
contact. She was brought to the vet in the trunk compartment of the
truck, in immeasurable pain, but allowed me to lift her, handle her,
and immediately clung to me as though she knew I would save her. We
have been at the vet for the last hour and she has gravitated towards
each of the staff with her indomitable endearing heart. She won't
quit, she won't hate; she will love and she will persevere.
I
could not be more impressed with this dog and more unimpressed with
her former guardian. No telling how long it took a simple injury to
manifest into this bad of an Injury but my guess is weeks; weeks of
intense pain and hopelessness.
Hope as arrived, however, and I
think she'll be ok. I know she'll be ok.
We need to get into
action for her. We need to share this post and get into the giving
spirit.
We need to raise money for her care, which starts with
extensive blood work, X-rays and examination. My guess is she will not
be able to keep her leg. Amputation may occur as quickly as tomorrow
but that all depends on how healthy her blood work comes back. She has
lost a lot of weight and appears to be about 20 pounds below normal. I
will keep you posted every step of the way.
