Watauga Humane Society, a local 501(c)(3) non-profit shelter in Boone, North Carolina, provides a safehaven for up to 70 homeless dogs at any one given time. All are awaiting that special person or family that will open their homes and hearts to these incredible dogs. Until a "forever home" is found, many of the Humane Society's canine residents need medications, veterinary care, and procedures that are vital in maintaining the health and well-being of these companions.

While volunteering with, or delivering donations to our county's Humane Society, staff are consistently voicing their heart-felt concerns that medical funds will be depleted at any given time due to the serious, chronic, and costly illnesses of the older dogs that enter the shelter on a regular basis. Seeing this crisis first hand, I've begun my own, individual fundraising effort to help offset the veterinary fees associated with the elder canine population there at WHS.

Watauga Humane Society has a small medical budget from which urgent, chronic, and lifesaving veterinary care costs are drawn. This medical fund is a yearly allocation, so by late Autumn into the holiday season, monies for these desperately-needed services are extremely limited, and even unavailable until the following year.

We all know that seniors (dogs over the age of 7) require age-related care not normally needed in our younger dogs. Upon intake, some senior dogs are extremely ill, and are suffering from conditions such as congestive heart failure, renal failure, advanced joint disease, blindness, advanced heart worm disease, tumors, hearing impairment, and diminished immune systems. Unfortunately, without adequate funding to provide these elderly dogs the immediate care and medications they need, many face an uncertain future when space is at a premium.

PLEASE...Be a hero to a senior this holiday season. Your donation will be applied directly to veterinary costs affiliated with the WHS senior population. Thank you for your commitment in helping senior dogs remain healthy and comfortable throughout the remainder of their "Silver Years".
