What is The Water Cycle Project?
The Water Cycle Project is a fundraising initiative supporting clean water access to families and communities around the world. Our plan is to bike the circumference of the earth over the course of one year, with the summer months spent on a coast to coast bike ride across Canada. Throughout the year, we will be raising awareness and funds through a variety of events, presentations and social media interactions. Our goal is to not only spark discussion and change in our own community, but also use the internet to create informative media and encourage thoughtful interactions across the country. The Water Cycle Project is a non-profit initiative will all proceeds going to Free The Children, an organization which has provided over 1,000,000 people around the world with clean water since 1995. For more information on Free the Children, visit the official site at www.freethechildren.com.
Who are We?
Cole (17) and Connor (18) Wielgosz are two brothers from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. When Cole took a voluntour trip to Kenya through Me to We last year, he was surprised and upset with the limited availability and unsanitary quality of water in these developing regions. He told his brother about this issue, and explained how one of Free the Children's five pillars was Clean Water and Sanitation, and the two agreed that something had to be done. That's when they began The Water Cycle Project–an initiative aimed to help in the accessibility and sanitation of water in developing regions, through the raising funds and awareness about the issues many are facing everyday.
When is this Happening?
The Water Cycle Project officially started on September 1st, 2014. The project will run until August 31st, 2015, a year after the project began. The first leg of the project will run from September 1st until May 31st, during which Cole and Connor will accumulate distance for their overall goal of travelling the the circumference of the world. On June 1st, assuming all goes according to plan, Cole and Connor will depart for Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, where they will begin their 3 month trek to Canada's Eastern Coast. Along the way they hope to spread awareness of the water issues people are facing around the world everyday, meet people interested in their cause, and inspire youth to initiate projects of their own for issues they are passionate about.
