William Abrams hasn't added a story.
Yerefolo is one of those rare individuals that you meet and you know you will never forget. He is a commanding presence, standing over 6’ 2” with a deep, resonant voice, an infectious laugh, a clarity of vision, and a gentleness of spirit to those less fortunate. Originally from Mali, and now living in Burkina Faso for the past 15 or so years, Yerefolo has dedicated his life to helping those less advantaged acquire the skills, experience and belief that they can overcome the challenges that too many people across the world face of no cause of their own. Yerefolo has also cared for his family, brothers and sisters and their children and grandchildren, as one does in this context – always with selflessness and dedication to creating opportunities for those in need.
However, Yerefolo finds himself now in a battle for his own health and safety. Suffering from kidney disease, he is undergoing dialysis in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, twice weekly to cleanse his body of toxins as much as is possible. But the only real cure at this stage is a kidney transplant. He can obtain one in Turkey at a cost of USD $30,000 – for the procedure, travel, and other expenses. The kind of health insurance that might fund a kidney transplant in the US is not an option for. him.
The purpose of this crowdfunding effort is to ask for your support to help Yerefolo on this journey. This effort is organized by his former Trickle Up colleagues Bill Abrams and Barbara Jackson, and it not directly affiliated with Trickle Up. (Because this is a personal campaign, not by a nonprofit, donations are not tax-deductible.) The funds you help us raise will be transferred directly to Yerefolo to help him acquire a life-saving kidney transplant and continue to live a productive, healthy life.
A smart and generous man and leader, he has provided inspiration to many people over the years. While Yerefolo has worked hard all of his life, he has never had the opportunity to save up this kind of money -- given his family responsibilities, care for his relatives and general income levels in West Africa. Fate is not on his side at the moment and, unless he has a transplant, kidney disease will leave him and his family with a very uncertain future.
Thank you for considering this appeal. At this season of gratitude and generosity, we hope you will help.
