How does your donation help?

Your donation will go directly to families and classrooms in need during COVID-19. Your support will help keep students engaged and learning about the ocean by sponsoring a student or class to join Sea Smart's  Ocean Defender online program or Virtual Sea School. 

To date, over 370,000 students have been impacted by our workshops, online programs, after school programs and, summer camps. What's more, Sea Smart's impact has a ripple effect that spreads within kids' schools, families and communities! All donations will be issued a tax receipt.

Our Birthday Wish

Can you believe Sea Smart started nearly 4 years ago? Since then we've:

  • Educated over 30,000 students in-person
  • Provided free online educator resources on ocean and freshwater plastic pollution to over 54,500 students in 17 countries!
  • Launched an Ocean Plastics Education Kit that reached over 387,000 students in over 20 countries
  • Become an Environment Canada G7 Task Force national partner in ocean education
  • and so much more!

Sea Smart started on September 4th, 2016 by Dr Elaine Leung. Dr. E’s birthday is also coming up on August 30th! It’s an amazing coincidence that she also shares a birthday with one of the world's most amazing ocean heroes - Dr Sylvia Earle. Both women have dedicated their lives to ocean research and conservation. In fact, since September 2016, Sea Smart has educated over 450,000 students to love and protect our oceans!

As you may know, we cancelled our summer camps due to COVID-19. Without our summer camps, we are experiencing low revenues and rising costs. Yet we still want to continue to support families and students during this time by providing relatable and educational content.

As the global pandemic continues, so do ocean threats - including warming temperatures, ocean acidificiation, and plastic pollution. The oceans need our help and we cannot wait. Will you help us celebrate our birthday by donating to send more students to ocean workshops?


What is Sea Smart?

Sea Smart is a Vancouver-based charity that delivers year-round shoreline clean-ups, online programs, school workshops, after school programs and summer camps.  Sea Smart's fun hands-on programs get kids excited about our oceans and empowers them to make the world a better place. 

 Sea Smart helps youth understand the role they play in making the world a better place. Studies show that it's important to connect young people to the natural world. There are many benefits to connecting kids with nature including:
  • Enhancing their self-esteem
  • Improving their physical and emotional fitness
  • Promoting their interest in the biological sciences
  • Gaining an appreciation for our incredible natural surroundings
  • Building essential life skills like creative thinking, personal awareness and social responsibility
