Sarah Blakeley hasn't added a story.
Nathan’s story starts like most kids, happy, healthy, and eager to learn and excited to grow! When Nathan started getting sick the doctor said “Oh it’s a sinus infection, here’s some antibiotics.” they also said “That looks like an allergic reaction, here’s some Benadryl”. While that played on repeat for a while Mother’s intuition said “That’s not right, this isn’t normal!” Nathan had seen many specialists, and had many tests done before he met with the doctors at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Since the moment he arrived at Seattle Children’s he’s had a team of doctors working hard to get answers, and try to help Nathan. They have been able to check a lot of things off the list, a lot of scary things that we a thankful Nathan does not have.
Unfortunately the team of doctors at Seattle Children’s have exhausted their resources, and have sent a referral for Nathan to be seen by the specialists at National Institute of Health. Nathan has been accepted to NIH and he and his family will be flying east January 21st.
We are asking for any donations that will help with travel costs as well as everything insurance isn’t covering. No donation is too small and even a share is very helpful!
When Nathan first started getting sick was with fever and facial swelling, fevers of about 102, this would last a week to two weeks, then would come back three to four weeks later. This lasted about 14 months while Nathan’s pediatrician kept saying the same thing. Over those 14 months Nathan was poked by everything that he could possibly be allergic to, he was seen by multiple ENT’s, and had a handful of long nights in the ER.
Over this summer Nathan had a fever that stayed above 102 and was up to 105 that lasted days, he also started to get a rash that spread over his entire body, and the facial swelling was making it hard to see out of one eye. At this point Nathan was also experiencing joint pain, and had zero energy, he needed to be carried to the bathroom, and up and down the stairs.
Hollie refused to listen to the pediatrician and took Nathan to Seattle Children’s where he had his first of many overnights in the hospital. This is when Nathan met his team of doctors from every specialty who ran every test, and have been testing his blood at least once a week since. Nathan is a strong kid but blood draws are his least favorite thing in the world, he’d rather eat vegetables for breakfast!
Along with all the blood work Nathan has had his bone marrow tested, genetic testing, MRI’s, CT scans, after all these tests we only know what Nathan does not have.
So we continue to ask questions, and do more testing, more fighting, and so much praying!! We are praying for Nathan to be healthy, and happy and eager to learn and grow with his friends!!
