After years of corrective rapes and physical violence by her father and the man she was forced to marry, Yvonne fled Uganda, and came to Canada; her father caught her with her girlfriend. She now faces deportation
because immigration doubts her sexual ID

Our beautiful friend Yvonne faces deportation from Canada. After years of corrective rapes and physical violence at the hands of her father and the man she was forced to marry, Yvonne fled Uganda, and came to Canada, because her father caught her with her girlfriend.

She now faces deportation, because immigration authorities question her sexual orientation. She won’t survive if forced to return to her homophobic homeland. Threats have already been made toward her.

In misogynist Uganda, where she was beaten, raped and imprisoned for having a sexual relationship with another woman. She dreams of: Canadian citizenship. Love. A safe home to bring her two children to.

The two-stage fight to stay here costs money, and because Yvonne has two part-time jobs, six days a week, she has been told that she is no longer eligible for legal aid because she makes a little over $14000. Now she must pay full rate for her immigration lawyer, close to $5000 at last estimate. While living in the most expensive city in Canada. The one with the LGBTQ resources she relies on to live her life fully as a lesbian woman.

Please donate whatever amount you can spare so that Yvonne can pay her legal costs to fight deportation. Thanks for making a difference.
