Since 2007, the 816 Bicycle Collective has been promoting cycling in Kansas City. A big part of the reason our 100% volunteer staff dedicate their free time to doing this is to help reduce the environmental impact of transportation. And while transportation accounts for 14% of global greenhouse gas emissions, electricity and heat production account for 25%!
Why install solar?
We can't change how the world produces its energy, but we can address our consumption and serve as an example for others. Our shop is entirely electric with no gas usage, and with electricity rates continually rising we aim to eliminate our utility costs and free up more resources to focus on our community. This is why we have decided now is the right time to go solar.
We need your help!
But doing this will have a heavy upfront cost, even with Helio Greentech, a local Kansas City solar installer, generously providing materials to us at cost. That's why we're turning to you, our community, to ask for help. Your donation will help fund the purchase of solar panels, decrease our carbon footprint, and eliminate our reliance on public utilities. And with existing incentives from the Federal government, 30-40% of your donation will make its way back to 816 Bike, boosting the impact of your donation beyond just this project!

Legal Information
Accounting
All funds received via FundRazr are considered "restricted funds" and will be used exclusively for expenses related to the acquisition of solar panels located at the 816 Bicycle Collective's southern building at 518 E Cherry St, Kansas City, MO 64108. Any funds raised in excess of what is necessary for the purchase and installation of solar will be considered "unrestricted funds" upon project completion and may be used by 816 Bicycle Collective for any other purpose. If at any point the 816 Bicycle Collective determines it will be unable to raise the funds necessary for this project, all restricted funds will be refunded, less any transaction fees that were paid to make the initial donation.
Fundraising Goal
Because Helio Greentech has agreed to provide materials at cost and material costs are constantly changing, 816 Bicycle Collective does not know exactly what the final cost may be. The fundraising goal is an estimate based off a quote received from Helio Greentech in October 2023.
Relationship with Helio Greentech
The 816 Bicycle Collective has not entered into any contracts with Helio Greentech and is not under any obligation to make final purchases with this company.
