As we all know, Rhino poaching has been a crisis in South Africa and has increased dramatically in the last few years, with hundreds killed each year for their horns and it's taking a toll as they near extinction. The statistics showed in the graph below indicates that more and more rhino poaching occurs each and every year despite our Anti Poaching efforts to stop the brutal rhino killers.

Rhino are being poached due to high demand of their horns in Asia for the medicine market. Although there is no scientific proof of its medical value, rhino horn is highly prized in traditional Asian medicine, where it is ground into a fine powder or manufactured into tablets as a treatment for a variety of illnesses such as nosebleeds, strokes, convulsions, and fevers.

This demand has created highly profitable and organized international poaching criminal syndicates who deploy advanced technologies ranging from night vision scopes, silenced weapons, darting equipment and helicopters to carry out their mission.

Unfortunately a lot of South Africa's Rangers are exposed to deeply disturbing scenes, with each poached carcass a frustrating and grisly reminder of failure, and they operate in the bush under harsh physical conditions, often with inadequate equipment, pay, and support. As a anti poaching ranger myself, I know how highly important it is to have proper equipment in the field to carry each mission out as a success and assure proper safety for our rhino and fellow rangers. Proper equipment is extremely important not only to carry out field operations but also to assure effectiveness in the field. The African bush can be a very harsh environment ranging from dangerous animals, unbearable heat and tough terrain to break even the strongest of men, therefore having proper equipment can be game changer in the field but also a life saver at the same time.

The funds and money raised will go towards much needed equipment for rangers who are struggling in the field to protect our rhino and face harsh enviroments everyday due to lack of proper equipment and medical supplies. Equipment that most Rangers lack in the field are as follows but is not limited to : proper clothing, weapons to protect the rhino and themselves, night vision goggles for night operations, bulletproof vests and backpacking equipment for hikes that can go as far as up to 20/30km a day. Although the equipment is very expensive it is achievable to obtain through a community that works togehter.
