Family, Friends, and Associates:

My wife Amy and I have an opportunity to join a three week mission trip to Kenya, Africa June 26, 2014 through July 15, 2014.  We are representing our church on the mission and are joined by a friend from Platte, SD named Brian Balster.  The trip is a two part mission including a week long seminar to teach local ministers more about the Bible and to teach the locals how to construct small diameter water wells.  Brian will be teaching the local ministers and Amy and I will be drilling wells and teaching the local people on how to do it themselves.

God has graciously blessed me with knowledge of wells, soils and geology through my engineering career.  Now God is calling me to help share my knowledge with people who are truly in need of clean reliable water sources.  The wells are smaller hand pump wells for individual homes or clusters of homes.  The well technology is simple and comes from another mission group called www.waterforallinternational.org. We highly recommend that you visit their site to see the wells and get information on their wonderful mission.  The point of the mission is to not only drill a few wells, hopefully, but to teach the people how to do it on their own.  The wells are constructed with materials that are available locally, and the pump is a handmade also using local materials.  The wells are generally 30 to 75 feet in depth, but able to go up to 150 feet.  They are constructed using a percussion drilling method that involves hand labor only.  The well construction, materials, and pump will costs about $100 each, but best of all, the technology allows the people to drill additional wells throughout the community and to make repairs in the future easily and affordably.

Brian’s non-denominational church in Platte is graciously helping with the costs, but Amy and I need help with the travel costs and would love to be able to fund additional wells.  The travel costs for the trip, for Amy & myself, will be approximately $6,000.00.  We are humbly requesting your assistance with this trip. First of all we are requesting your prayers for a safe and successful mission, and secondly we are asking for monetary support to help defray the costs of the travel and well materials.  Whatever, you can provide would truly be a blessing for us and we are working with the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) in Aberdeen to set up a mission account so your donations can be tax deductible.  The FUMC and our information is provided below.  This trip is both frightening and exhilarating to us, and your support will mean so much.  Thank you and God Bless!
