World Hazara Council USA hasn't added a story.
Dear Friends — We urgently need your help so that thousands of Afghans like Zahra*, a former Afghan medical corps commando, can survive and get to safety. Please consider that:
- Zahra expertly and faithfully provided medical care to her colleagues and other patients. She had a verified flight in August 2021 to safety with hundreds of colleagues.
- After the airport bombing in Kabul in August 2021, Zahra could not get into through the gates, despite an official pass and multiple desperate attempts.
- Taliban forces beat, assaulted, shot, and turned away thousands who tried to enter the airport, especially women and ethnic minorities . Then, another flight of Zahra's was cancelled. She is under constant threat from the Taliban and has not been outside of her hiding place in over 1 ½ years.
- Taliban members are killing former commandos they are able to locate. They force others to marry Taliban members and become veritable slaves whose existence is erased from society.
- Afghanistan is facing an urgent humanitarian crisis. Most of our Afghan allies are in hiding and can no longer work, even if there were jobs available. Taliban replaced talented humanitarian workers, medical providers, government workers, and social service providers with extremist, inexperienced Talibs and their associates who deprive most of the population of humanitarian aid and services.
- Food and other aid sent to Afghanistan through the World Food Program is hoarded by Taliban and sold for profit to their members and associates. Our and others’ advocacy, including numerous calls and emails to the WFP and other international NGOs, has done nothing to penetrate this racket. The Taliban have also destroyed the homes of Hazaras and others and forced them off of their property.
Among those we have helped get to
safety is Arman, another ally and relative of Zahra’s.
Arman was horribly tortured by Taliban and was under
continued threat and beatings before he was able to flee Afghanistan
with his wife Nafisa — a teacher — and their children.
Arman is now helping other Afghans get to a safe
country, and awaits anxiously for Zahra and the rest of his
family members to obtain their visas.
Zahra, her sisters, and their parents are among the thousands
we at World Hazara Council USA are helping with humanitarian aid,
case management, and relocation to safety. Our caseload is
diverse, and includes Afghans of all ethnic groups and risk categories.
We are an all-volunteer organization formed after the fall of Kabul in 2021, and we urgently need your support. Your donation can make a significant difference in the lives of women, men, and children. With your help, we can:
- Provide emergency shelter, food, and medical care to at-risk Afghans
- Help relocate those in immediate danger to safety
- Provide visa support for intermediate relocation, and other urgent needs
The situation in Afghanistan is dire. Will you make a donation today to help us to support at-risk Afghans in need?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
We will continue to provide you with updates on the people your donations are helping.
