Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Rescue is hard. Being a Vet is harder. Working at a Veterinary Emergency Hospital has to be one of the hardest things ever.
Day in and day out, you see patients whose families can't or aren't able to provide the care a dog needs and sometimes, you know if a family walks out the door with that dog, that dog is going to die. If you put yourself in that place, you can't help but understand why the Dr.'s, Nurses, and Administrators who dedicate their career to helping animals in our veterinary practices go for the "hail mary" sometimes to help a dog in need.
Prince is one of those dogs.
Price came to LeadER with extremely low blood sugar. He was lethargic and somethings was most definitely very wrong. His family was not in a position to care for him and were going to euthanize him.
LeadER reached out.
He was only a year old.
He is not short, smooth, and does not have a snout to get badgers out of holes.
He is the floofiest of floofy dogs.
We have already done an honorary doxie this week.
The last thing we need is a floofy white dog with life threateningly low bloodsugar of unknown origin. What were we signing ourselves up for?
LeadER is always there for us. They work miracles for us every day and go above and beyond.
They needed a win.
They needed to not euthanize a one year old floofy dog who could likely be helped.
They were throwing a Hail Mary Pass to save this boy.
We can't blame them.
There are no doxies in the shelter that need us today, and this floofy white boy very much needed us.
We have never been in a position where we had to euthanize a dog that could likely be helped and if we can help the team we love so much at LeadER from having to do that, even once, that was what we were going to do.
Welcome to what seems to be "honorary doxie week" at DRSF. Prince is now an honorary doxie and is under medical supervision and having diagnostics run to see if we can figure out what is going on with him.
Welcome to DRSF little floofy white dog.....
We are either extremely compassionate or extremely crazy, or perhaps some of both. We have fingers and paws crossed you understand that until you have had to say "no, we can't help" and what is going to happen as a result of it, how far you will go to avoid it. Will you help us cover Prince's care so we can be there to support both dogs and Vets the next time they both need us?
