Angelica’s Rainbow hasn't added a story.
Angelica’s Rainbow (aka AR) is a Norwich based not-for-profit enterprise, created from a passion to enable opportunities and second chances for humans and animals alike.
Angelica is our SSD (Special Sheep Director) who met our founder Lora when she was just 1 hour old. Originally bred for food, the little lamb had pneumonia due to her mother dying during birthing, so Lora cared for her and hand raised her until she was strong. The two had a clear connection, and just as Lora had save Angelica’s life, the poorly little lamb had actually saved Lora’s life too.
Lora has long term mental and physical health conditions, and when Angelica’s came into her life she was really struggling for a reason to stay alive. Angelica gave her that reason. With the knowledge of how much one sheep had helped her and how the sheep wouldn’t be alive had she not intervened, Lora saw that animals in need spending time with humans equally in need can heal both in a way that is so unique. This was how Angelica’s Rainbow was formed.
It is ARs belief that positive human/animal encounters can change lives. As an organisation we facilitate this through our three projects:
1-Poppy’s Pet Pals (aka PPP)
Poppy is our 12 year old Shetland pony who came to us after spending 6 long years tethered to a post by just six foot of rope! PPP provides forever homes for all species of animal in need. The animals are assessed to take part in positive educational and therapeutic encounters which benefit both humans and animals, as they often both need love and attention. At AR we have witnessed miracles happen during these encounters, and one such encounter always comes to mind. A young man who suffered involuntary physical ticks for three years came to visit AR on a recommendation from one of AR’s supporters. As he sat on the ground, legs crossed and a sleeping rescue bunny on his lap, the young man’s mother began to cry. She told us this was the first moment in three long years that she had seen her son be still, free of ticks and free of anxiety. I explained to the mother the bunny rabbits sad background and that he must have feel safe and secure with the young man in order to snuggle and sleep. This is just one of hundreds of examples of the amazing outcomes of ARs positive human/animal encounters.
2.Urban’s Craft (aka UC):
Urban is our Ryeland Wether, a castrated male sheep, who suffers from neurological problems and being part of a mini flock with plenty of human interaction has allowed him to thrive despite his conditions.
UC provides a free weekly craft group in the centre of our neighbouring council estate, open to any member of the wide Norfolk community. UC prides itself on its sustainable crafts, using our own sheep’s fleeces to felt items to sell at AR events and local businesses. You don’t have to be arty or crafty - in fact some people tell us the main reason they come to the group is the social aspect, and the pride they feel when they produce a felted item for the first time.
3. Audrey’s Assistants (aka AA):
Audrey, our Ryeland ewe is usually seen by her best friend, Urban’s, side. She is also the head of our volunteer and work experience program. We provide many different roles for people from all different backgrounds, skills and situations, from age 12+. Currently AR is entirely run by a wonderful team of valuables volunteers.
How can you help?
Due to the corona virus, all AR’s paid animal/human encounters at schools, care homes and hired community events, have been cancelled. We have also had to stop our volunteer groups and AR’s free events we put on for the community. This means AR has no income whatsoever other than relying on the support and kindness of others. We still have to provide food, water, bedding, enrichment, vet bills, medicine and land safety for all our rescued animals. We are asking for donations to support the good work we do for the animals in need, with the aim of being able to facilitate our projects as soon as the government deems it safe to do so. To compound the issue, Lora has been advised to self isolate for 12 weeks due to her long term chronic health issues, so needs trained volunteers or paid assistants who is willing and able to help out.
Alongside raising funds for ARs basic needs we are also focused on a larger goal. AR has outgrown the land we currently reside on and need to move to a larger location in order to provide forever homes for more animals in need and provide more opportunities for humans within our community and beyond. For this to happen we need a lot more money. We are asking individuals whom are able for one off or monthly donations to this cause but also are inviting companies to support Angelica’s Rainbow as part of their corporate responsibility. The difference you can make to the lives of, not only so many animals and humans but to an entire communities, is without end.
Thankyou so much for taking the time to read this. For more information please feel free to contact Lora and the AR team on:

Stay safe and thankyou from all humans and animals at Angelica’s Rainbow
