Holly's Hope hasn't added a story.
Holly's Hope was founded in 2012 - inspired by a rescued doberman named Holly. She was one of those special dogs who changed lives - especially mine. When she passed away at 11.5 yrs old, Holly's Hope was founded in her name to raise funds for animals in need. In 8 years, we have raised funds annually for numerous Ontario Farm Animal Sanctuaries, Canada's only Primate sanctuary, Pilots N' Paws (PNPC Wings of Canadian Rescue) : an organization that transports animals in need, by air or ground to safe homes, IFAW's Northern Dogs Project (serving Free roaming societies of dogs in the James Bay Regions), Toronto Animal Services, a handful of Rescue Organizations for Companion Animals, and now for the first time, we are COMPELLED to raise money for an individual Piglet - LITTLE RED.
Who is Little Red ? ....and WHY is he so important ?
Little Red represents so many animals who are bred for the Food "Industry". Innocent, captive, mostly abused and then slaughtered. Not a nice life for anyone. We have all heard stories of the animals who "leapt from the slaughter truck" or those who were "dumped in a roadside ditch", and while we are not certain which scenario, led to this little piglet running skittishly by the roadside in Orillia - we do know that he was NOT in a good way. He was certainly running to save his life - and if not for an amazing pair of humans, who ran to his aid, he likely would not have made it.
As Little Running Red's luck would have it, one of his road-side rescuers was a member of Orillia Vegans - and she knew that Susan Morris - founder of Snooters Farm Sanctuary, was in the area, and would know what to do. So...they contacted her...and indeed she knew exactly what to do.As Susan has done her entire life (mother, paramedic, and sanctuary owner) she did not hesitate to leap into care taker mode - and offered to take the lead on saving this boys life, and getting him to a forever home. The pair arrived at 8 pm at Snooters Farm with Piglet in tow (now wearing a doggie collar for easier management). It was immediately obvious that this boy was special. HOW SPECIAL??? Our little red piglet had an abdominal hernia the size of a grapefruit!! This boy needed help - and he found it....at no small cost... It seems that he found his angels and this is where i am asking that we all pitch in. His journey over the next few days has been hectic and expensive and very rewarding (especially for Little Red). In short.....
July 24th:
• Little Red is found running skittishly along the roadside in Orillia
• 8:00 pm he arrives at Snooters Farm and is given a stall of his own with food, water, hay and blankets
July 25th:
Susan makes an appointment with a veterinarian in Barrie - brings him in (no easy task) - and she is told they would not operate on him, not fix his hernia, and the recommendation of euthanasia is made.
- undeterred, Susan calls the Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph and drives 200 hundred kilometers with Little Red (as she named him) to get him help. OVC did not disappoint. Little Red got his Hernia fixed and got neutered while they were at it, and Susan covered another 5 hours of driving round trip (and a day that spanned from 8 am - 5:30 pm) to retrieve this little red guy.
So what now? For those who don't know, Susan Morris ran a fair sized farm Sanctuary (Snooters) for many years. She shared the duties with her paramedic husband and for a long time they took opposing shifts in order to have round the clock care for all of the animals they rescued. Moving in to retirement - Susan and her husband divorced, she moved the farm to Orillia and has been taking care of ALL of the chores, maintenance, costs and responsibilities alone. Recently she let the community of animal rescuers know that, while she would continue to operate the farm and all of the animals would live their natural lives to the fullest, she would no longer be taking in more animals. Let's face it - everyone deserves to retire - and it is a very wise decision to cease homing animals at an age when physical labor, long hours and extensive bills are becoming more difficult.
Because she is who she is, (and i have known her for a number of years), Susan accepted Little Red as her own personal responsibility, made sure he had his medical needs met, paid the bills, and is caring for him (and giving him meds). Snooters Farm (Susan) has made an arrangement for him to move to Ruby Ranch sanctuary for pigs - and she has offered to pay for his board for the remainder of his life.
This is my Proposal. Thus far, Susan has spent $2,000 for Little Red's Operation and neuter. There have been costs for medication, gas, and there will be ongoing expenses for food, vets, farriers etc.
LET'S PITCH IN TO SPONSOR LITTLE RED. The money raised will pay the vet costs (take that off of Susan's visa bill) and make a little sponsorship pool for Little Red. Lot's of people sponsor an animal...Let's do it as a group. This little guy tried so hard and he deserves a comfy life. Susan is a fantastic person - and so can we all be. The people who run sanctuaries work so hard, for animals whom others have turned their backs on. Let's show solidarity. Let's jointly help little red.
TOGETHER WE CAN SAY WE DID IT FOR LITTLE RED (and the sanctuaries - Snooters and Ruby Ranch) who invested in his future.
