Dachshund Rescue South Florida hasn't added a story.
Our team, resources, and war-chest have been tested over the last two months with more urgent medical needs cases than we have seen in a long time. We do everything we can to provide everything for the "new" dogs who make it to our door, but we also make that same commitment for care and treatment to our Forever Fosters. Ethel is one of those dogs and we need your help to keep that commitment to her.
Ethel is a little peanut and is the last surviving member of 4 dogs who came to us as "stays" from Homestead and is an adorable hot mess. She has no teeth and her lower jaw has disintegrated. Her snout is equally fragile and it is broken and floats around. She is a frequent flyer at Pet Medical center of Boca for various ailments related to a wonky face. So far we have been able to cover all her medical needs....until now.
Ethel developed a set of symptoms that we initially thought was pancreatitis and did an overnight at LeadER. Pancreatitis was ruled out, a urine culture ruled out a bladder infection, and bloodwork showed her kidney values were off. X-rays are showing some sort of metal in her stomach and an ultrasound revealed a polyp of some sort on her bladder. Further consult was needed to get to the bottom of the situation and Ethel visited with Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Alvarez re-evaluated the x-rays and another ultrasound to check for differences and now the polyp at the top of her bladder are suspect.
Ethel made her 3rd trip back to LeadER to have some cells taken from the polyp to see what is going on there and determine if we are looking at Cancer or not (which her Foster Mom is hoping with all her might that is not the case...)
Either way, Ethel has run up a pretty big tab for a little girl and we are beyond lucky that there is an anonymous donor who has a soft spot for forever fosters and want to ensure that we can cover Ethel's expenses so that we can be there for her and our other forever fosters.
Would you consider a donation of any size to help us keep the same promise to our forever fosters that we make to our "new" dogs? As always, even $1 helps and even if you are not able to donate, you can still help with a share or a comment as the more comments we have, the more people see our posts! Ethel sends her love and thanks for helping her!!
