Most of you know how much I love biking, but you may not know that this August is extra special for me. It's my birthday today (August 3) and my first work anniversary as the executive director for Trips for Kids! It's going great so far, growing the team with a new Board of Directors, a small but talented staff crew, and already opened four new chapters, and more coming!

Think about your first bike ride! It was a pivotal moment for me, and I want all kids to have that same sense of freedom and independence and excitement that I got when I started riding. Hell, I still feel that.

My parents got my first bike for me when I was eight. We went out onto the road in front of our tiny house in Stratton, Colorado (ugh.). Dad pushed me, I started rolling, rode straight for about half a mile, then...didn't know how to stop. I fell over, but I was hooked! Now I spend my time getting more kids on bikes.

By the way, whenever I see you next, let's ride!

About Trips for Kids

Trips for Kids has enriched the lives of more than 200,000 youth across North America by using one simple tool – the bicycle. Our first chapter was founded by Marilyn Price in 1988, and since then we have grown from that small program in San Rafael, California, to a vast network of 75 independent chapters across North America.

Our chapters reach young people between the ages of 10-17, from mostly underserved communities, through schools, youth development agencies and community organizations. Our Discovery Trail Rides, Adventure Clubs, Earn-a-Bike Workshops, Youth@Work Programs, Mobile Bike Clinics and other youth development programs are helping to get kids active, healthy and inspired by nature.

On August 1, 2017, we launched a new national umbrella organization to focus on supporting strengthening existing chapters, growing the network of new chapters and grow the movement to Get More Kids on Bikes.
