Help Metrowest Yoga recover the sudden loss of their center in Worcester MA to seek help in bringing attention and seeking justice for this devastating event that rattled their peaceful community.

As many of you know from the emails, website notifications, and announcements in class, our beloved center in Worcester had to close suddenly because the building was deemed unsafe due to some construction happening close to our center in Worcester.

Shawn invested her life savings in the studio and the primary purpose of the fund is to restore her financial status to what it was prior to this shocking event.  Students and teachers both have asked for a new studio and this may or may not happen.  The abrupt ending of the Worcester location has left everyone in shock. The way this was handled and the events leading up to it have left us with many unanswered questions. If possible we hope to pursue legal action.

Shawn would love to connect with anyone in the media or lawyers who specialize in commercial leases to assist with pursuing action. We will stand up for ourselves and our community and hopefully will play a part in preventing this from happening to another small business owner.

The Backstory: Shawn received a call on June 22, 2018 at 3:30pm, from the Worcester Deputy Building Inspector to inform her the building was no longer inhabitable and needed to close immediately.   We were given a few days to remove our belongings yet when we arrived the next morning, building had been locked and barricaded from the inside. This prevented us from entering without police intervention. Because of this and other harassment leading up to the eviction, it has provoked us to want to research this and determine exactly what happened.   Because we were allowed limited access to get back into our space, we were unable to remove most of the expensive heating equipment and belongings that were invested in this center.

Shawn is trying to decide if opening another space in Worcester makes sense. Many of you know this is the SECOND time this has happened. The first time was 4 years ago. As she was diagnosed and recovering from cancer, she learned her first studio had been sold and would be torn down. She never had a chance to recoup her investment in that studio. She rallied and found a beautiful space on Prescott Street and started over.  It has been 2 years since opening this second space and it has happened again. Shawn is a single business owner and has invested her personal savings into her centers from retirement or home equity loans that she managed to scrape together as a single parent.

Many of you have been reaching out and asking how you can help. We are hoping to raise money for her to recoup her losses, but also to pursue bringing attention to the injustice of how this was handled. Funding could allow us to reach out to media outlets to bring attention perhaps through Investigative journalism, and to pursue legal action.

Shawn has been clear that she can’t promise another studio, but certainly would consider it if the funding was there.

We hope you will consider helping ease her struggle and bring attention to this injustice with a small donation. Also if anyone has information or referrals for media contacts or commercial real estate attorneys please send to info@metrowestyoga.net

On Behalf of Metrowest Yoga and its entire community, we sincerely thank you!
