Hello everyone!

1/11 Update: WE DID IT!!

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Valerie, and I'm 18. I've had this idea since October when I first was able to see Movements live and talk to Pat. One of the first things he said to me was something along the lines of, "Oh my god, sorry if this is weird, but your eyes are literally so big and blue." Which, really isn't that weird considering I'm legally blind and wear 20mm prosthetic contact lenses, so I basically look like I'm straight out of an anime when I'm not squint-smiling. Anyways, that started a conversation between the two of us about my vision and the road I've had to take to restore it, and while we didn't talk much about his colorblindness, I went home that night and couldn't stop thinking about it. My entire life until recently, I had the opposite of what Pat sees. I couldn't really see detail or words or much of anything, but everything I saw was blotches of color. He sees what I couldn't, and I see what he can't.

I remember the day I got my prosthetic contacts, which (along with a transplant), allow me to see nearly perfect 20/20 vision. I can't put that feeling into words, and it doesn't go away. Every morning when I wake up and put my prosthetics in, I get that same feeling. And I thought to myself, what if I could give him even something remotely similar to that feeling with just a pair of glasses?

So here we are. I know that money is tight for pretty much everyone right now, but even a dollar or two can get us there. I'm personally going to be covering about a fifth of the cost, but that's really all I can do on a college student budget. If all goes according to plan, I'm going to be giving him the glasses on 3/14 at the Nashville show.

I will definitely keep y'all posted on everything, and if you have any questions, you can DM me on Twitter at @FOURSlMPLEWORDS (the i in "simple" is an undercase L)

- Valerie

PS: The glasses are only $349, but there is a service fee I have to pay for the fundraiser, so that is why the goal is $375. I'm too lazy to do the actual math to figure out the exact amount we need with the fees factored in, but as soon as I have $349 with fees being paid, I'd end the fundraiser

Over 300 million people worldwide are affected by red-green color vision deficiency, also called color blindness. Enchroma has created glasses which enhance color vision without the compromise of color accuracy.

Enchroma glasses are an optical assistive device; they are not a cure for color blindness. Results vary depending on the type and extent of color vision deficiency per individual. The glasses are estimated to be effective for 4 out of 5 cases (80%) of red-green color vision deficiency – prospective users are encouraged to take our online color vision test to assess the likelihood of efficacy. Enchroma does not endorse use of the glasses to pass occupational screening tests such as the Ishihara test.
