Mona Fawaz hasn't added a story.
My name is Mona fawaz, and I am a Muslim American that was wrongfully convicted . Michigan case resulted in tragic outcome due to jury bias and pre deliberation discussions. Tragic distortion of justice, due process, and the guarantee of a fair "jury of your peers". In April of 2009 we suffered a tragedy resulting the passing of my children's father. Five months later we encountered another tragedy, where we lost our home to a fire. All of our family picture, memories, and hope burned along with the fire. We were devastated. We no longer had a home. We had no money. I was lost. The only thing I could think about was how to shelter my children. Two weeks after the fire, i started getting bombarded and harassed by the detective of the city of Dearborn, the insurance investigator, and the prosecutors. This tragic and unfortunate fire accident resulted in my conviction. I was sentenced to a maximum of 20-35 years in prison. I spent ninety days in prison when a new law stating that the judge could over turn my guideline sentencing arose. This law was made because of the case of "people v lockridge" 498 Mich 2015. I was then released. I completed my five year probation and my case was closed. I then got a letter in the mail stating that the prosecution has re opened and appealed my case for re-sentencing. I have exhausted the mi appeal options, even though it was very clear that my constitutional rights were violated with racial stereotypical anti Muslim jury biases. I am a hard working single mother that helps the needy, has a job, pays taxes, all the while trying my best to raise my children. However at my trial, all of this was disregarded. Instead racial slurs were made, and anti Muslim comments were said. They disregarded the facts, filled the trial with assumptions and stereotyping, and to top it off they didn't have any evidence. The state police investigation report stated that there was NO evidence of accelerant in my home. The insurance investigator claimed that they may have taken the wrong item from my house and that's the reason they couldn't find any evidence against me. My identity was stripped away at that trial and I was labeled as a stereotype. The jury made their decision in forty-five minutes. I need your support to help me raise money to appeal and get a fair trial. I just want to clear my name and make sure nobody, no matter what color, religion, or sexual orientation gets their constitutional rights violated. No amount is too low. Please anything will help. Much appreciated! Time is of the essence! I have until august 11th.
