Alexa Faye was born on April 12, 2013. Shortly after 5 hours, she was diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia with Intact Ventricular Septum. PAIVS is a rare congenital heart defect which is a complete blockage of the pulmonary valve located on the right side of the heart. This blockage thus prevents the flow of blood to the lungs. The cause is unknown and it is occurring in around 4-6 cases per every 100,000 live births (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulmonary_atresia)

She was 3 days old when she had her first procedure done called Balloon Valvuloplasty. On her 4th day, she had another surgical procedure called Blalock-Taussig Shunt (BT Shunt). This procedure is temporarily used to direct blood flow to the lungs and the first step of the 3 series of operations that she requires to undergo.

She is now 6 months of age, an adorable little girl that amazes everyone everyday. She loves to smile and this gives us hope for her bright future.

On 23rd of Oct 2013, she had open heart surgery for her 2nd procedure called Bidirectional CavoPulmonary Connection (BCPC)
