A Good Samaritan was driving home from work last night and came upon this little girl after being hit by a car, injured and alone, literally in the middle of the highway in the Keys.  She was badly injured and needed help and as crazy as it turned out to be, getting hit by a car may have saved her life.

Her Angel reached out to DRSF looking for help and at only 7lbs and with nowhere else to go, we could not turn our back on her.  We agreed to help and our Good Samaritan got the little girl we have named Keyara (foudn in the Keys...see what we did there?) to LeadER this afternoon.

An exam, x-rays and blood work revealed Keyara is suffering from a femur fracture, a broken pelvus, pulmoary contusions AND pyometra.  While the fractures are incredibally painful for Keyara, had she not been hit by a car and picked up, the pyometra, an aggressive and dealy infection in the uterus, would have almost certainly killed her within a very short amount of time.

The good news is that Keyara is safe with DRSF and on pain meds, fluids and antibiotics, the bad news is that we are up against our hardest surgery - the broken pelvis.  It is the most expensive single procedure we do and throw a hospital stay and other orthopedic treatment on top of it and Keyara will be one expensive little girl to save - but we think she is worth every penny. 

We want to be able to keep saying "yes we can help" when tiny dogs are found hit by cars in the middle of the night, but we need your support.  Every single dollar counts toward our goal to help Keyara and make sure our war chest is ready to help whoever is out there tonight and will need us soon.  Can Keyara and our war chest count on you for a donation of even a few dollars?
