Lee Stevens hasn't added a story.
Millie has had a rough life and it's taken its toll on her tiny body. Finally it seems that luck was on her side landing her at the home of someone that really cared what happened to her and with networking she is now safe with us. After a long drive Millie went directly to the vet clinic where she underwent a thorough exam.... the results of which were not good.
Per the vet it is obvious judging by the area she came from and the splaying of her paws and condition of her paw pads, she has spent most of her life in a wire kennel and shows signs of having been bred over and over and over again.
Millie has hair loss over about 30% of her body. Her skin is red and inflamed (I noticed it on her face immediately) from a bacterial infection as well as spots that are covered with yeast. She has abrasions on her legs which are red and infected. Her female parts are swollen and tender (no she is not pregnant, just some exposure of internal parts) and while mobile, you can tell she isn't used to walking a lot...you don't get a lot of exercise in a crate.
She has the WORST ear infection/ears I have ever seen on any pup. They were so raw and inflamed...filled with puss and green goo. The vet did an initial flush so medication could be administered, but Millie will need to be sedated to have them properly cleaned. The bad news is both of her ear canals are calcified which means she has been in this condition for a very long time and of course she is now deaf.
Millie has only a few teeth left and those that are there are bad and will need to come out. She is in the early stages of PK (pigmentary keratitis) and will eventually need prescription drops for her eyes. She can see but she does have vision impairment.
There is good news...her heart and lungs sound good.
Millie is on several medications: a couple of antibiotics, ear ointment and gets baths in a medicated shampoo. She also got a Bravecto and some dewormer.
I didn't want to overdo it on her first visit so when we return next week for her follow up we will do a senior blood panel, heartworm test and then set out a treatment plan for her.
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Millie's expenses so far at at about $300 and this is only the beginning. She needs to be spayed, get bloodwork, a dental and will require continued care for her skin issues.
We are asking each of you to please consider a donation towards her care. I will ask the vet clinic if they accept phone donations and get their info here.
Thank you for helping this sweet little old lady
