Elizabeth Chitty hasn't added a story.
I am raising funds for my participation in Biophony, Bioacoustics
for Artists, a residency in the Gatineau first week of May
2017. The week-long residency is organized by an artist-run
organization, Ayatana. The program includes an audio processing
workshop, learning to call owls with an ornithologist, building a bat
detector to amplify their tweets and chirps, visiting the lab of a
researcher working with audible caterpillar communication, visiting an
apiary to record the sounds of bees and field recording during guided
dawn and evening hikes.
I began an invigorating new phase in my work last year with an audio
editing residency at Warbler's Roost, where I was introduced to REAPER
DAW. (Although I have worked with audio throughout my career, I have
previously contracted out audio editing.) This residency offers me
great opportunities to further develop my skills and work with
biologists, which will expand on my work with ideas of place.
The goal of $2,000 covers cost of the residency including
accommodation and food living on site in Gatineau Park as well as
travel to Ottawa by bus and VIA Rail. The turn-around on the
application and residency date is too short to apply for a grant; I
have exhausted the opportunity of funding my work through personal
debt and have no savings - otherwise, I would not ask others to
consider supporting my professional development. I hope that some of
you who value my work, understand the importance of professional
development at any career stage, and have a few extra dollars may
consider helping out. Thank-you!

recently increased importance of audio and perhaps get an idea of how
the learning from this residency might manifest.)
