We’re asking for your help again...
Friends:
Last year a group of friends and community members successfully raised almost $11,000 to help Momodou Keita, a young man from The Gambia, pursue his studies in Nova Scotia. Mo’s family had encountered unexpected challenges and hadn’t been able continue their financial support of Mo’s education. Without funding to stay in school, Mo faced the prospect of having to leave Canada.
We were delighted that our community responded – in the spirit of the Ivany Report -- to keep this talented immigrant in school in Nova Scotia. I’m very pleased to say that Mo finished the first year of NSCC’s Information Technology program with a 91% average! He’s a bright student with a passion to complete his education and make a life for himself here in Nova Scotia.
Mo worked part-time during the school year and is working full-time this summer. Mo’s family has begun providing some financial support again and they were able to fund most of his rent this past term. His own earnings covered groceries and other living expenses. So, things are going well and Mo has done a good job balancing work and studies. We’re proud of Mo and proud of the support our community has shown to enable him to stay in Nova Scotia.
However, he needs our help again to contribute towards his tuition this year. As an international student, Mo pays over $12,000/yr to attend NSCC.
And so I am appealing for your support to ensure that Mo is able to complete his program this year. We believe Mo is exactly the kind of talented individual Nova Scotia needs to attract and retain to sustain our economic and cultural growth.
So, please join us in helping Momodou to realize his dream. You can play a part by making a financial contribution in support of Mo’s education and continued presence in Nova Scotia. Your donation -- big or small – will make a difference!
Thank You.
