Friends of Isobel Foundation hasn't added a story.
Isobel was born prematurely on 10th November 2007 at just 31 weeks gestation due to Trachea Oesophageal Fistula; her lung was joined to her oesophagus and required immediate correction and within twelve short hours Isobel was taken in for life saving surgery.
August 2008 at just eight months old it was confirmed. Our darling Isobel was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy and the real fight began for Isobel and us, her family. Life became about hospital appointments leaving me no choice but to sell our business and become a full time carer. It was necessary to ensure Isobel was given every opportunity to become independent and utilise all resources available to make it happen. At the age of three it was still an ongoing challenge for Isobel, still unable to crawl, sit or walk, and her only words were Mum, more and car. With this came a lot of frustration for Isobel resulting in extended tantrums and puling clumps of her hair out of her scalp.
Isobel is now about to turn seven and in her short seven years she has endured nineteen procedures five of those major, one life saving. Isobel attends mainstream school however continues to have difficulty with her speech and relies on a wheelchair. Isobel has been fortunate in the past to undergo stem cell treatment thanks to previous efforts in fundraising. The stem cell therapy took place in Germany and has made substantial improvements. She is able to walk short distances assisted by her walker and her speech has also made a mind-blowing improvement.
Unfortunately this treatment is still not available in Australia leaving us with no option but to travel overseas. When you met Isobel, you will see what a bright intelligent beautiful girl she is. Cerebral Palsy affects the muscles not the intellect; she has a beaming personality and developing quiet a sense of humour.
As any parent we want the absolute best for our little girl, always encouraging her independence. Our daily regime consists of routine stretching, massages, time on her feet in her standing frame, speech exercises, and in summer we add swimming. Without this routine, Isobel is noticeably tense and stiff the following day. Isobel has weekly visits with her physiotherapist and she is about to start horse riding every Wednesday morning. Horse riding will allow her core muscles to strengthen. We travel home to Brisbane to revisit Isobel previous physicians and undergo intensive physiotherapy with her previous physiotherapist.
Our goal is to raise a Massive $40,000 in 90 days for Isobel to travel overseas for stem cell treatment in hope she will walk independently without her walker and speak clearly and be understood over the phone whilst talking to her grandparents. Any help is truly and undoubtedly appreciated.
