Welcoming refugee children to Canada, one bicycle at a time!!

Every year, 200 to 250 new Government Assisted Refugees arrive in Saskatoon. Many of these newcomers are fleeing violence, war, and/or trauma in their home country as well as the desperate living conditions they endure in refugee camps. Many new arrivals are children.

Most new refugee famalies arrive with very little or no money. Additionally, as soon as they arrive in Canada they are in debt to the government for the cost of their flights to Canada. Being able to purchase a bicycle for their children is just not possible for newly-arrived families.

With little money to pay for social and recreation programs, many children have very little to do during the summer months.

Please help us get these kids rolling!!!

A success story
Recently, we bought a new Trek Mountain bike for an 11 year old girl from Nepal. She is so shy, but absolutely adorable. When, after choosing her bike, she went home and showed her family, her mother nervously asked, "How will I ever be able to pay for this?". Our translator then explained that the bike was free, that people had donated money so that her daughter could have this. A welcome gift to Canada. The mother just stood there in disbelief and shock; she couldn't fathom that someone would give them something like that for free, that people would show them such kindness.

Helping others - this is surely the meaning of life!! Yes!!!
