Abuse. Poverty. Desperation.

This is what my friend “Sarah” has gone through.

Now she needs your help to save her home.

For many years, Sarah and her seven children suffered terrible abuse at the hands of her husband, an alcoholic and addict who refused treatment. Six years ago, he fled the country, leaving her alone with huge debts. He first initiated divorce proceedings, but then refused to pay child support or even give her a get. He has continued to torment her and the children from afar, to the point that she was too scared to put her real name on this appeal, for fear of how he might retaliate.

Close to thirty years in an abusive marriage have left their mark. When she was single and in the early years of her marriage, Sarah worked as an educational consultant, high school teacher, and psychotherapist. But as his abuse progressed, her husband insisted she stop working, and hoping to placate him, she did.

Now the doors to her previous fields are closed. Requirements have changed and she would now need a new degree to work as a therapist, and she keeps getting turned down for teaching positions because of her lack of recent experience. She works at the jobs she can find  cleaning, cooking, and minimum wage jobs, but it is nowhere enough for her to support her six children still at home.

Struggling to pay for basics like food and utilities, Sarah has been unable to keep up with mortgage payments on her large apartment and is now facing foreclosure. She needs to sell her apartment, but has less than two months to do so. If the bank forecloses, she and her children will be left not only penniless but homeless as well.

Right now she needs $12,000 to halt the foreclosure proceedings. This will give her time to sell her home at its value, so that she isn’t left with nothing.

The next step is to fund her master’s degree. With that, she can get a well-paying job so that she can support herself and her children without relying on further charity. Tuition for her master’s program is $11,000.

Please give generously because Sarah and her children need your help!
