Brian Vollhoffer hasn't added a story.
Hey,
For those of you reading this who don't know me, Hi. I'm Brian
Vollhoffer. I was born in Burnaby but raised in East Van and I'm a
lucky human for the most part. I would even say privileged. Thanks to
my parents I was able to participate in multiple sports through
school, community centers and local clubs. Anyways, that's enough
about me because this isn't really about me. It's about a feeling that
I once had of not knowing who, what, where, when, why and how I could
give back to the community but more importantly the youth of today,
the adults of the future. Aprons for Gloves was the answer.
"The Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association (AFGBA) created
the fundraising event, Restaurant Rumble – an annual fundraising
event to help support Eastside Boxing Club (ESB) and their community initiatives."
Community initiatives such as the ESB Youth Program. This is why I have taken it upon myself to register for and participate in this year’s Aprons for Gloves Restaurant Rumble 2018. What I registered for was the opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the ESB Youth Program. This program as of last year has supported 250+ youth who reside in the Downtown Eastside (DTES) and East Vancouver. They offer access to: clothing, food, fitness classes, academic tutoring, medical care, and support systems through a collaborative effort with the Network of Inner City Community Services Society leading to both physical and emotional health. They’re about getting the youth inside the gym, off the street and equipped with the tools they need to be successful. This program is funded by AFGBA and their annual Restaurant Rumble. This program is bigger than boxing, it transcends the sport. They can't continue this positive influence on our community without all of our support. I am asking you to please donate, to help us be the change we want to see not only in our community but the world. It is my personal goal to raise at least $2000.
During the next 3 months I will be raising these funds all while
pouring out my blood, sweat and tears in the gym at ESB so that these
kids don't have to pour theirs in the street. If given the opportunity
I'd gladly trade my place on my couch for one in the ring if it meant
a kid was in the gym or at a tutoring session instead of being
involved in violence or crime.
Difference can be made, it just takes more than one person. Be
the other people. Please donate.
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2018
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
