I would like to raise money to help out the people from Houston Texas, which was recently hit by Hurricane Harvey because I truly believe that in times of devastation by natural disasters, we should always try to help each other as much as we can.

Hello supporters and friends of Fundrazr,

My name is Yemi Shin, and I am a high school student at Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies, and today I want to call to attention a devastating natural disaster that is plaguing our neighbors in Houston, Texas, US.

Last Friday, August 25th, Hurricane Harvey slammed ashore in Texas with ferocious winds of 130 mph accompanied by heavy rainfall. It was a level 4 hurricane. Just a level short of Hurricane Katrina.

The storm has inundated parts of the Houston area with more than three feet of rain. In some places, totals surpassed 50 inches, setting a record for the continental United States.

A week has passed since the initial touchdown, but the aftermath of the storm continues to wreak havoc on the Houston residents.

Officials have reported at least 38 casualties that were related or suspected to be related to the storm. The victims include a police officer who died on his way to work; a mother who was swept into a canal while her child survived by clinging to her; a woman who died when a tree fell on her her mobile home; and a family that is believed to have drowned while trying to escape floodwaters in a van...Just ordinary people who couldn't be more similar to our selves.

What's worse is that just recently on the 30th, Harvey, now a tropical depression, shifted its wrath to the Beaumont-Port Arthur area of Texas, where there were already two explosions at neighboring chemical plants. Experts suspect there may more.

As of now, more than 32,000 people are in shelters in Texas, and close to 50,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed by flooding and high winds. One analysis suggested the cost to property could mount to $25bn.

The damage is too big to ignore. We have gone through Katrina and Sandy TOGETHER with the help of supportive donators across the country, and we can do it NOW.

The money you donate would directly go into Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, established by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner. The fund is administered by the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity. Your donations, however big or small, are guaranteed to be spent where it is most needed: Houston.

I know that these days private donations to individuals like me get a lot of negative attention because there are just as many scams as there is genuine good will. However, I wanted to make this donation personally because Houston has a special place in my heart, and I know some of you could certainly relate; I wish to make a positive impact on the lives of the Houston residents and would love for you to join me.

Thank you for reading through my story. I appreciate your attention and awareness to the problems that our neighbors face and taking a big step to help out in their rescue.
