Patrick Gill hasn't added a story.
Hi from Standing Rock.
This is shaping up to be the perfect metaphor for America. Huge multinational corporate interests-intent on much future profit-bulldoze to the edge of the river without Corps of engineering final approval and now act like it is a done deal and why the hell should they need a permit anyway huh? They are whining because it has cost a lot of money to build it and move it and sign all those papers etc etc. Originally the pipeline went by Bismarck but the white people there (and if the governor of this state doesn't have a bundle tied up in this deal I'll eat my Stetson) didn't want their water wrecked so it was moved south to Standing Rock. The Indians are confined to a minuscule amount of land in an impoverished part of the country and now this DAPL wants to screw up their water and the water of everyone down stream. This country has made and broken 500 treaties with them so I get why the Sioux are not really all that excited about permits or promises. They want some action. So they protest and the corporate hired military styled containment force responds with attacks by dogs, rubber bullets etc. Now the governor pulls in the national guard. The powers of government are once again aligned against the Sioux because the Indians dared to protest a very real threat to their lives. Should we talk about the 300 pipeline spills in the last year or how the whole fracking deal is an environmental nightmare or should I tell you what the guys at the bar said last night ? One was "almost done." Everything was paid for and he was finally gonna get out of the oil field. The other guy said he still had a few years to go but the house near Bismarck was free and clear. But see they probably aren't. They've worked in a grueling business in cold tough conditions doing hard work. But they could easily end up like those poor people in Hinkley Ca. (See Erin Brockovich) Huge corporations don't really worry about poison and pollution. They are not really into maintenance either. Just build it fast before anyone tests the water. Just another superfund site. (Those are the ones all us taxpayers get to clean up after the hasty exit of oil companies, the Navy etc) See these guys aren't like the government. If the profit goes away so do they. (See Abandoned Trump tower in Mexico or Flint Hills refinery in Alaska or just look it up on the EPA site. Listed by state, there some real eye openers.) Anyway the shit is gonna hit the fan here cuz these Indians have had everything taken from them and they are not backing down. So if a million or so people were to protest with them I'd say it might help. Anyway if you can do it act now. Call the bankers, call Trump (he's a DAPL investor and maybe he'll shuffle it to his kids and that will keep them busy so they don't destroy the security of the nation by selling the codes on the shopping channel.)
Oh yeah and I'm gonna need some bail money. So if nothing else don't leave me in the dog kennels at the Bismarck jail for Christmas. I am standing with these Sioux. I'll be home to mess with the Navy in January. My brother Patrick is collecting for me and any money I don't use for bail, I will donate to the local Standing Rock legal defense fund.
