Attilio Rigotti hasn't added a story.
Dear Family and Friends,
My college experience has been incredibly transformative, and
as it comes to an end, I find myself asking what my role as an artist
is, and what I want my life to be. The future is scary, but also
exciting due to some incredible chances that have come up in these
last couple of months. I’m excited to share with you these amazing
opportunities, and ask for your support in helping me take advantage
of them.
I have been invited to study this summer with Theater Mitu and Witness Relocation, two ground-breaking NYC-based theater companies. I have been lucky enough to work with Witness Relocation last year and with Theater Mitu since 2011.
Theater Mitu “has been dedicated to the transliteration of world
theater performance and ritual traditions towards a training for the
contemporary theater-maker. The goal of this training and the
training itself is what we call Whole Theater. We define Whole
Theater as: a theatrical experience that is rigorously visual,
aural, emotional, intellectual and spiritual all in the same
moment”. To this end, they have carried an amazing amount of
research and training of world performance traditions, learning from
the masters themselves of each and every country they have
investigated. To share this training and knowledge with artists,
Theater Mitu carries out their South India Artist
Intensive in Bangalore, India from July 6th to July 27th. I
have been invited to be a part of it, and it will surely be the most
intense and demanding physical, psychological and artistic three weeks
I have ever experience, training with masters of South Indian
performance as well as artists and performers of Theater Mitu. The
training is centered around the following themes: What is your
mythology? How does it encounter the reality of the world? How do
you reconcile these two by way of your art?
Witness Relocation "combines dance and theater
with the energy of a rock show, exploding contemporary culture into
intesely physical, outrageous, poetic and sometimes brutal
performances in order to question the assumptions of the modern day
experience." Their work lies in the exciting in-between
space: it is neither dance, nor theater, and mix and matches different
mediums in exciting ways. To share, train and investigate the creative
process, they carry out a Performance Bootcamp,
where artists get to experience, experiment, collaborate and
hone their own creative process. It will be one of the craziest and
most dangerous things I have ever done.it will be happening from June
22nd to July 4th, in the Catskills Mountains in Upstate New York. The
objectives of the bootcamp, among many others, to explore task
based, problem solving methods that eliminate the pressure to
"be creative", and "make sure what you do is
continuously fun and exciting."
This coming month of training with these companies is extremely
important to the phase I am in my life. In May, I will have to face
one of the most important transitions of my life, moving from being a
student to being a professional. Throughout my college education, I
have become obsessed with storytelling, in particular, theater, film
and interactive art. As I move out into the world, I have to start
asking myself: what exactly are the stories I want to tell? What
do I think an artist is? What are the beliefs and myths and tales I
find exciting and what are the tools I need to express them? What do
I find exciting about the world itself, and how can I use to empower
my work? How can I stay true to myself, and now be pressured to be
someone I'm not? These are exactly the questions these
intensives are asking and inviting people to explore. I cannot think
of any better moment to do these intensives than now, as I'm about to
step into the real world. But I cannot do it without your help.
The overall cost for both intensives
is $5700 ($3900 for Theater Mitu's and
$1800 for Witness Relocation's). This includes the trip
to/from India, all classes, training, cultural excursiosn, room,
board, food, tourist visas, etc. I have never made an appeal to my
community like this before, but the truth is, I won't to be able to
accomplish it without your help.
I am asking if you would be willing to make a small donation to
help me take advantage of these opportunities. Any amount helps, no
matter how small! If you can't make a donation, I understand! Would
you be willing to share with other you know who might be interested?
Anything helps! Spread the word!
I've set up this FundRazr account to accept safe and secure
donations from your credit card, debit card or PayPal account. All you
need to do is click the "Give" Button!
