It’s so hard for us to wrap our heads around how many sick and injured animals end up as “strays” that land in local shelters.  So many of them have clearly been someone’s pet for the majority of their lives, they want to be pet, want to sit in laps, and get and give kisses.
Rogan is just that guy. Handsome and sweet senior boy. He showed up at the shelter as a stray and a hold was placed with pick up date after stray hold was over. Today we got updated medical that he needed out and needed out now. So the Pambulance headed south to get this lovely old man. It was clear that he was a staff favorite. As President Pam was walking him out of the shelter four different staff members stopped to say good bye and good luck, to go along with the pats to the head.
The medical notes did not come close to preparing us for what was seen. On the drive north, Rogan had a few things to say and some whining and panting ensued, showing his lower jaw. The mass that encompasses the entire front part of his jaw must make it very difficult to eat and the stench coming from it did not make accepting kisses easy.
Rogan and Pam made their way to LeadER Animal Specialty Hospital where we will start with bloodwork, xrays, pain meds and a consultation with Dr. Unis after Dr. Johns does her overall body exam. The medical notes mentioned masses in other locations, so they will be evaluated too. We will do what we can to make this sweet boy comfortable and keep him happy and loving.
Will you help us show Rogan some DRSF love and make it possible for him to get the care that he needs and have our war chest be ready for whoever needs us after him?
