Who are we?

We, Bex and Calyn are engaged to be married! Calyn has worked in the music industry for the last 15+ years, currently booking the talent for the historic Macdonald Theatre and Cuthbert Amphitheatre here in Eugene OR, and has lived in Eugene most of his life. Bex, known to her family as Rebecca, has spent much time travelling around and is a more recent transplant to Eugene. She holds many jobs, currently enjoying a chef position at a University of Oregon sorority, but considers herself an artist fundamentally, with serious aspirations as a children’s book author, painter and poet. We are excited to begin a lifetime journey together, and start a family. To celebrate our union, as an accompaniment to our wedding, we are throwing a music festival-style event entitled Love: A Fair of the Heart.

What is Love: A Fair of the Heart?

We want to bring the things we love most to the people we love most! Uniting ceremony, community, music, art, costumes, campouts, and the special magic that only a festival-style celebration can bring, we want to invite our friends and family to experience and enjoy an event of our own creation.

Why Host a Music Festival?

A shared love of music and music festivals is central to what first brought these two hearts together. Its summer 2018, a musician and close friend, Caitlin Jemma is playing a renowned music festival called Lightning in a Bottle (LIB), employing her friend Calyn as sound engineer, and although Bex frequently tours with Caitlin as the band’s live painter, this time she is travelling down with a group of girlfriends to enjoy the festival. Bex and Calyn have their first “date” as a business meeting to discuss travel logistics around LIB to see if she can drive his car back to Eugene, dropping him off at the airport. He is planning to fly directly to Spain for another music festival with passes from personal connections made through work in the industry.  The “business meeting” runs long, as they begin sharing stories of the heart from their own personal history, and begin to entertain a philosophical discussion about love. Soon it is clear that both these individuals are incredibly passionate and romantic people: thinkers, adventurers, and lovers at their core. Time would show the compatibility in their hearts through the care and communication, the values and worldview, and the creative ambition they share.

Coupled with a wedding celebration, a ceremonial rite uniting two hearts, the festival offers an immersive experience with the heart at the center. The foremost purpose of it is to provide more time and space for family and friends to connect, but the festival is not just a party with love as the theme. During the festival celebration, guests are invited to explore and connect with the heart itself. Experiential learning through immersion in thematic elements and expressions of the heart is the setting for this.

Why Fundraze?

Throwing a large event comes with all sorts of costs. In addition to permit fees, equipment rental, staff, and infrastructure, we plan to pay all the artists, and feed everyone a wedding feast and Sunday brunch. Although many friends in a variety of industries are working discounts to make our costs come in at a fraction of usual, our tightest budget for the event is still $25,000, and the more donations we receive, the better experience we can create! We plan to amplify the potential of the dollar amount, utilizing our resources creatively and crafting from scratch many aspects of the event.

We can’t do it alone! Your participation makes the event what it is- and what it can be. Merely by attending and participating you authorize ownership of the event and amplify it’s potential. We are relying on a huge team to contribute their time, creativity, work, and love. If you are excited about the event and able to contribute financially, we humbly are asking donations to make our dreams a reality.
