Thomas Evans hasn't added a story.
Sleep tests have been invented by the experts in the field of science in order to diagnose different types of sleeping disorders. The thing about sleep disorders is that unlike other diseases, they cannot be determined using blood tests and radiologic procedures. They can only be diagnosed by determining the brain waves of the individuals while they are sleeping. One of the most common sleeping disorders that afflict many individuals around the world is sleep apnea. It is a condition wherein the person experiences breathing pauses while sleeping. Such usually occurs at least 30 times while the person is asleep.
When it comes to the tests being done for sleep apnea, the traditional in-lab sleep test is still being done. Nowadays there is already a home test for sleep apnea. As their names imply, the first one is done in a hospital or sleep clinic. On the other hand, the second is done at home. Generally speaking, in-lab sleep apnea tests, the patients are required to arrive at the facility between eight and nine in the evening. They have to fill out some forms and the registered polysomnographic technologist (RPSGT) will be discussing the procedure to the patient. Typical tests end between six and seven in the morning. Home sleep tests (HST) for sleep apnea involve the use of portable devices that will be brought home by the patient. The kit can be rented out from the clinic or bought or rented from a reputable company. The patient will then be given instructions on how to use the kit and how to go about the test. The results will then be brought or sent back to the provider for proper evaluation.
When it comes to the different equipment involved in the tests, there is also a difference between the two. In an in-lab sleep apnea test there are a lot of materials being used. Basically, such is because of the fact that the test is being supervised by an expert. Electrodes are placed on the temples of the head, face, and legs. An elastic belt is placed around the person's chest. An EKG monitor, an oximeter, and breathing activity and snoring monitors are also used. For HSTs, a small nasal cannula, chest belt, and finger are used. According to people who learn more about HSTs, the equipment used is reduced in order to prevent false results caused by accidental removal of wires and others. When it comes to cost, it can be denoted from above that HSTs are more affordable than in-lab sleep apnea tests. In fact, according to data, the cost of HST is one-fourth lower than the in-lab test.
Taking the above facts in consideration, in-lab tests have an advantage when it comes to supervision since an RPSGT is present throughout the test. They can also detect a lot of variables because of the many equipment placed in the patient's body. When it comes to convenience and affordability, HSTs have great advantage. Thus, it is the recommended screening test for sleep apnea. People who are interested in HSTs for sleep apnea can find more information at SleepHealthyMidwest.com
